Group 2 tools: Voki
Today I made my Voki. This was quite fun to do. There weren't many faces to choose from in the standard site, but if I wanted to upgrade to the Voki Classroom then there was alot more variety. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to post it to my blog. I finally reverted back to the technical manual we were supplied with at the start of this subject. Low and behold there was the step by step direction on how to post my Voki to my blog. I couldn't manage to put audio on it yet, but I have put a text in for my Voki to speak for me. When you type in your text for the Voki to speak you have to spell it out phonetically, which is how a word sounds not how it is spelt. for example my name is Carly but I had to type it in my speech as Carlee as the "y" was pronounced "I". Here is my Voki.
I have done a PMI on the use of Voki's in the classroom:
P-Plus
Fun
Can add in audio, type audio to animate it
Free
Can be published on Facebook, Blogger, Twitter- applies to the real world and to students interests
M-Minus
Have to spell out the type audio phonetically - could confuse students
Not simple to embed onto Blog using the instructions on the site
limited variety of faces/appearances in the standard site
I-Interesting
Sign up to Voki Classroom for a bigger variety of faces/appearences - free trial then pay after
Visually pleasing to the eye - engages students and could engage them in topics that they wouldnt have normally listened to.
