Group 2 tools: Digital Video

Our task was to make a digital video. As I was sitting at my computer trying to come up with an idea for my video a beautiful butterfly flew past my window. This butterfly was my insperation, now all I had to do was make it. Simple! well no it wasnt so simple. I downloaded the program Windows Moviemaker and after some pressing of buttons and experimenting I managed to make my first slide full of visual effects :), then I couldnt figure out how to make a second slide. A few hours, a few cups of tea and some choice words later I had a movie. Then the program stopped responding and closed before I saved it. I was furious. It only took me about 30 minutes to remake it. So here it is after many trial and errors. My movie on the Butterfly Life-cycle. I hope you enjoy.

I have completed a PMI on how useful this tool would be in the classroom:

P-Plus
  • Enjoyable
  • Can add video, photos and music files
  • Alot of effects to fiddle and play with for the students to show their creative flair
M-Minus
  • Can be fiddly and takes a while to figure out
  • No spelling or grammar check - potentially lead to sloppy or text style writing
I-Interesting
  • Great way to display a students work
  • Can add more than one music file and can select it to start at any point
  •  After a bit of practice could be a very effective tool in the classroom for assignments or student projects
